The new Dallas remake has set a date for what is bound to be one of  the biggest TV farewlls of 2013 in the USA — the funeral of J.R. Ewing.

Three weeks after TV legend Larry Hagman‘s death from complications due to cancer, we have learned that “Dallas” will lay his alter ego, J.R., to rest in the upcoming second season’s eighth episode, slated to air on March 11 in The States.

Hagman completed filming a number of Season 2 episodes prior to his sudden passing. Although production was not significantly impacted, producers quickly began crafting a proper send-off — one that is rumored to feature a number of returning Dallas vets (including several that have not yet been seen on the new version.)

When J.R. was shot in 1980, The “Who Done It?” episode  was, at the time, the highest-rated television episode in U.S. history. It had a Nielsen rating of 53.3 and a 76% share, and it was estimated that 83 million people watched the episode, more than the number of voters in that year’s presidential election.

The new cast includes Desperate Housewives – Josh Henderson and Jesse Metcalfe and original cast members – Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and of course Larry Hagman until his passing.

DALLAS‘ second season is set to premiere on Jan. 28 in The States, with it yet to finish its first season here in Australia. It was shown and Nine for four episodes and got a small cult following then promised to air on GEM in summer – but so far has not been scheduled. The first season can be bought for those wanting to catch up by January 28th on the internet!
